En un giro, la acción del mundo sobre las cosas

En la dinámica serie de pinturas espirográficas con el mismo titulo que la serie de grabados, Hirst explota “la naturaleza mecánica y sin embargo fortuita de la producción artística”. Busca intencionadamente dar el sentido de lo azaroso mediante manchas de color informes creadas al verter pintura industrial corriente sobre un lienzo que gira sobre su eje. En la serie In a Spin, the Action of the World on Things, Hirst recurre al medio del grabado para adentrarse en los temas del azar y el paso del tiempo. El título (En un giro, la acción del mundo sobre las cosas) implica que es el mundo en movimiento constante el que está creando estas delirantes obras.

La simplicidad y purismo de las piezas se contradice con su complejidad técnica. Hirst atornilló las planchas al eje central de una rueda motorizada como la que utilizó para realizar las pinturas. Entonces, tendido en una plataforma directamente sobre las planchas, dibujó sobre las planchas en movimiento sirviéndose de agujas, herramientas, desarmadores o aceite de lavanda que iba lanzando sobre la plancha o aplicando con una jeringa. Una vez que la plancha estaba cubierta, el aceite hacía una mordida y era inmediatamente retirado con un paño. Igualmente utilizó el aguatinta para crear áreas de tonalidades ricas y sensuales. Se utilizaron de una a diez planchas según el numero de colores aplicados, para crear cada grabado.
